“If I had my life to live over again, I would have made a rule to read some poetry and listen to some music at least once every week.”

Albert Einstein

Purposeful music listening just may be part of a holistic prescription for making healthier choices in life. Music, an abstract stimulus, can arouse feelings of euphoria and craving, similar to tangible rewards that involve the striatal dopaminergic system.(1) Research was published (Salimpoor, VN, 2011) on Anatomically distinct dopamine release during anticipation and experience of peak emotion to music. The results indicated that intense pleasure in response to music can lead to dopamine release in the striatal system. (2)The striatum is a key structure in a distributed cortico-basal ganglia memory system that supports the acquisition of inclinations to make specific responses in particular situations.(3)
